RV Camping Near Rockport, TX

Updated June 2026 Rockport, TX

Rockport sits where the live oaks lean inland from the salt wind and Aransas Bay opens out toward the barrier islands. People come to fish the flats, watch the whooping cranes winter over, and run the ferry to Port Aransas for a day on the Gulf. It’s a small coastal town that rewards staying a while.

Rockport RV Resort puts you a few minutes from all of it. We’re just off Business 35 on Smokehouse Road, outside the center of town along the bay, with full-hookup sites, cabins, a pool, and a dog park. This guide covers what RV camping near Rockport actually looks like: the sites and hookups, what’s biting in the bay, where the cranes are, and the day trips that fill a week without trying.

Why Camp in Rockport

On Aransas Bay, Minutes From the Water

Rockport and neighboring Fulton sit on Aransas Bay, a shallow, grass-flat estuary that’s some of the best inshore fishing on the Texas coast. You don’t need a boat to start: the shoreline, the piers, and the Rockport Beach jetties put you on redfish and trout. The resort is a short drive from the bayfront, the harbor, and the launch ramps.

A Hub for Port Aransas, Mustang Island, and Corpus Christi

Rockport works as a base. Port Aransas and the Mustang Island beaches are about 30 minutes south by way of the Aransas Pass ferry. Corpus Christi, the USS Lexington, and the Texas State Aquarium sit roughly 35 minutes down the bay. You can fish the flats in the morning and stand on a Gulf beach by afternoon.

Whooping Cranes and the Aransas Refuge

Rockport is the gateway to the only natural wild flock of whooping cranes left on earth. They winter at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, about 30 minutes north, roughly November through March. Boat tours run out of Rockport and Fulton harbors to see them on the flats, and the refuge has an observation tower and driving loop. Bring binoculars; the birding here is a genuine draw, not a footnote.

Sites & Hookups

Sites run full hookup (water, sewer, electric) with 20, 30, and 50-amp service on concrete pads, in both pull-through and back-in configurations. The concrete matters on the coast: less mud after a Gulf shower, a level pad for the slide-outs. There’s a dump station on site, and WiFi across the park. If you’re bringing a 40-foot fifth wheel or a Class A, come in off Business 35 at Smokehouse Road and you’ll have room to maneuver.

What's On-Site

Stay a week and the laundry room and the pool earn their keep. Rockport RV Resort runs a heated pool, hot tubs and saunas, laundry facilities, restrooms and showers, a fitness center, and a clubhouse with a game room, billiards, and shuffleboard. Outside there’s a fenced dog park, a pavilion, horseshoes, picnic tables, and golf cart rentals for getting around the grounds. The library and clubhouse give the Winter Texan crowd a place to gather when the north wind kicks up.

Things to Do Around Rockport

On the Water

Fish the Aransas Bay flats for redfish and trout, kayak the Lighthouse Lakes paddling trail through the mangroves, or run the ferry to Port Aransas for Gulf beach days and offshore charters. Rockport Beach, a Blue Wave certified beach with a calm swimming basin and a bird sanctuary, is a few minutes from the resort.

On Land

Walk the Rockport Harbor and the Rockport Center for the Arts, see the Big Tree at Goose Island State Park (a coastal live oak estimated over 1,000 years old), and tour the Fulton Mansion, a restored 1870s Gulf Coast home. The Rockport-Fulton art and seafood scene punches above the town’s size.

Day Trips

Drive 35 minutes to Corpus Christi for the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium, or push on to Padre Island National Seashore, the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the country. Port Aransas, 30 minutes via the ferry, is worth its own day for the beach and the docks.

Winter Texans:

The coast fills with snowbirds October through March. Monthly stays start at $500; call ahead for seasonal rates and site placement.

Bug season:

Coastal Texas means mosquitoes and no-see-ums, especially at dusk after rain. Pack repellent and a screen room if you've got one.

Grab a Texas saltwater license and stamp before you wet a line; available online from TPWD or at local tackle shops.
